“You can heal a recent wound, but if you haven’t come to terms with your past wounds, you can be sure those wounds will turn into scars that will continue to define you.”
Reflecting on my years of self-coaching and reflection, I’ve realised this:
Whatever we try to AVOID, is where the real work needs to be done. Most of the time when we meet a challenge, we go straight into solution mode.
Since young, we’re taught to solve problems efficiently. Feelings are a burden. Productivity is prized.
Problem is: Without feeling our feelings, we’re unable to identify the real issue, leading us to finding the solution on the wrong thing.
Many people think that the reason why they have fear of speaking is they don’t have enough practice. So they practise more. The practice they do gets them some results, and the results validate them enough to think that “more practice” is the solution.
One day, a bigger challenge comes by that is something they didn’t practise for. Their fear response comes in to protect them, causing them to freeze, and they end up beating themselves up and shaming themselves. This results in a constant hell loop, going on and on leaving us wondering why.
The only way to escape this loop is to first be AWARE we’re in a loop. The work is in getting clear on what exactly is holding you back. Instead of assuming the reason, ask yourself “What’s my real fear here?”
99% of the time, what you believe is your fear isn’t your real fear. When you sign up for a discovery call to learn more about the the Own Your Voice Coaching Circle, we’ll dig deep to identify the real reasons why they are stuck, so that they leave the call knowing where the real work lies.
They say that if you haven’t come to terms with your past wounds, those wounds will turn into scars that will continue to define you.”
As much as we’re doing the work to heal, these “wounds” are inevitably a part of our story, and stories have the power to connect and heal. These “wounds” are what translate into the depth of our character, and show in the uniqueness of our personality.
When we use our story to connect and inspire, it gives greater meaning to our “scars”.
The journey of healing isn’t linear, and it sure doesn’t mean we have to heal BEFORE we can contribute in this world.
As we write our stories, even the unfinished chapters can touch the lives of others around us 💗
