I hated my life and tried so hard to be somebody else. Now, I’m living the life of my dreams.
Hello! This is my first ever blog post, so I thought hey — let me share with you how I came to do the work I do today.
When I was a little girl, I was carefree. I laughed when I had fun. Spoke up to ask when I wanted something. I did what my heart called me to.
Until I started to fear.
I feared that I wasn’t good enough. I feared that I would be excluded from friend groups for not being ‘cool’. I feared lagging behind and not being as successful as my peers.
I looked into the mirror every day hating myself — wishing I could cut away the fats on my body, wishing I could just be prettier, smarter, more valuable.
I used to love watching Wizards of Waverly Place on Disney and wondered why I didn’t look as pretty as Selena Gomez. When she cut bangs, I cut bangs too. I bought beanies and gloves so I could look like how she did in the show.
But I never made the cut. I never felt good enough. I used make up, power suits, branded bags to make me feel just a little more confident.
Until I got my biggest eczema outbreak in 2019.
I woke up one day with bloody peeling skin shedding all over my bed. With every movement of my body I felt like I was cut by a million knives. I looked into the mirror and I almost didn’t recognise the swollen face looking back at me. I saw every shred of my confidence melt away.
But I continued doing what I loved — speaking, hosting, meeting new people. I realised that hey, people didn’t care about how I looked. They were focused on what I had to say, and I was focused on what they had to say. I had great conversations despite the way I looked. I even went on a date, and it turned out fine!
I learnt that when I placed my focus on others, and do things out of love, instead of fear, my insecurities fade away, and I get to enjoy the connections and work I do in the present.
Today, I’m living the life that little rae would be proud of. She wouldn’t even imagine that I am now speaking in front of thousands of audiences, coaching people from all over the world to speak with confidence. She wouldn’t believe I would be travelling the world and working from beautiful villas and serene oceans.
My biggest hope now, is for me to live everyday with love. To let my life be a testament of faith and courage — so that you can live the life of your dreams too.
This is why I am doing the work I do today, championing the message to “Own Your Voice” through speaking, coaching, through my every conversation. Owning your Voice is to grow a loving relationship with your authentic voice, so that you can show up and speak up with confidence and courage in every area of your life.
I’m excited to connect with more of you and hear your story. Would you introduce yourself below? 🙂
